How to hard reset your Android smartphone

If you notice that your Android smartphone begins to do strange things or that it suddenly turns off or does not respond, as usual, one of the solutions that we can apply is to do a android hard reset, so that it can work again without a problem.

If you don't know what it is or you don't know how to do it, pay attention because we give you all the steps below.

What is a hard reset?

When we talk about hard reset android on any mobile device, we refer to the fact of doing a complete "reset" of the smartphone, so that it is back with the factory settings.

That is, the applications that we have been installing will not appear, but only those that the serial device already brought.

In this way, when you decide to do a hard reset of your Android mobile, what you are actually going to do is delete all those third-party apps that you have, as well as the information (calendar, contacts, accounts, etc ...) that you have been collecting since you started using the phone.

With this, you will achieve that any problem that the device has, is eliminated.

Normally, this 'reset' is usually done on mobile phones or tablets that, for example, no longer run certain applications or simply get "hung up" waiting to continue with whatever app you have installed.

With a hard reset, you return to the original firmware, so the terminal to which you do it must work again without any problem.

On the other hand, although we think that the hard reset will erase everything, the truth is that it will always keep the latest operating system that we have installed.

In the case of Android, your operating system may have been Android 7 when you bought the smartphone, but if you have updated it to Android 8 later, it will remain once you turn on the terminal again.

Steps to hard reset your Android smartphone

After explaining what it is, let's see below how you can easily reset your mobile so that it returns to what it was.

It is best to do the hard reset from your mobile, however, sometimes it is impossible to access the settings menu so we will also teach you how to do it from the recovery.

Do a hard reset from the mobile device

  1. First, you must enter the Settings section and there select the Backup option.
  2. Within this section, you will see that the option Factory data reset appears.
  3. A screen will now open that will serve to verify what we are about to do. Therefore, on this screen, we will get a warning that all the data and settings that we have made will be lost.
  4. It is advisable that before doing the hard reset, you have made a backup copy of all the documents stored on the device, such as music files, photos, videos, etc.
  5. If you have already made the copy, select the option Reset phone and you will see how the "reset" of the entire terminal starts until it is left with the factory settings.
  6. The SD card that you have had inside the terminal during the hard reset process will not have been modified at all, so if you saved all your files and documents there they will continue to be there and you can transfer them back to the phone if you wish.

Do a hard reset from the recovery

Maybe the problem you have with your mobile Android that forces you to do a hard reset has to do with the ignition or starting the device.

For this reason, it will be impossible for you to access the Settings menu indicated above, so you must do the hard reset from the recovery of the phone.

This is an option that appears just before the phone starts, so that to do a hard reset from the recovery we will have to be quick when we turn on the terminal to be able to do it.

  1. Press the on / off buttons and the Volume + button at the same time and the recovery menu will appear. If not, perhaps it is because you have a specific Samsung-type mobile that has its own key combination to access it. In that case, try pressing the power buttons + Volume up + Home button.
  2. You will see that if you press the keys for a few seconds you will get a menu in which, with the help of the volume button, you must go to the Wipe data / Factory reset option.
  3. Now press the start or power button to select this option and you will see how the hard reset begins without a problem.
